Please read these Terms of Use carefully before accessing the Data Repository service. By accessing the service, you accept, without limitation or qualification, these Terms of Use.
The following definitions are important and used throughout the rest of this document, unless explicitly stated otherwise:
These terms and conditions specify that you will use this service for its sole purpose and at your own risk. When re-using the data, you will clearly state the name(s) of the original author(s) and that you will not use the data for commercial purpose unless this is specifically allowed by the attached license of the dataset.
By registering as a user of the Repository you accept the following conditions of use:
The Repository is made available to researchers and communities in order to publish and preserve research data. The Repository should not be used for personal, recreational, political, commercial or any other research-unrelated purpose.
Use of the Repository and related services and resources is at your own risk. Although SURF guarantees that the service and resources will be available at any time, it might be possible that services are interrupted due to planned maintenance or unforeseen circumstances. The Repository is not liable to any compensation in case of lost data or loss of service.
Logged information, including information provided by you for registration purposes, is used for administrative, operational, accounting, monitoring and security purposes only. This information may be disclosed, via secured mechanisms, only for the same purposes and only as far as necessary to other services within the SURF infrastructrures. We guarantee your personal information is securely stored, processed and used. See for more information our Privacy Policy.
All metadata stored in the Repository, except private information such as email addresses and phone numbers, must be publicly available and will be shown at any user's request.
To protect your data, SURF relies on the best security practices. The data center where you data is stored, the SURF data center, is certified by the ISO/IEC 27001:2005 standard for its information security management system.
Several conditions apply for the usage of this service:
SURF is entitled to regulate, suspend or terminate your access to the service or remove and/or make inaccessible any data that is not meeting our requirements for data publication. You are liable for the consequences of violation of any of the conditions of use.
Any violation being identified will be subject to corrective action, including possible termination of access, legal action, and criminal liability.
In the case of non-compliance with one of these Terms of Use, the use of the dataset must be terminated immediately at the initial demand by SURF. SURF reserves the right to, in such an event, to inform the user’s employer. In the event of improper use of personal data, SURF also has the right to inform the Dutch Data Protection Authority (College Bescherming Persoonsgegevens). The user indemnifies SURF against all claims other parties may bring against SURF as a direct or indirect result of the fact that the user has not or has incompletely taken these Terms of Use into consideration.
